Review by hotel critic
Staying at the Walpole Bay Hotel was a delightful plunge into nostalgia and the charming quirks of history. Nestled in Margate, a mere 200 meters from the shoreline, this Edwardian gem encapsulates a unique character that's hard to find elsewhere. The moment we entered, my travel companion and I felt at home, as if we were visiting a beloved grandmother rather than a hotel. Our spacious room was bathed in natural light, offering a splendid view that made mornings all the more inviting. The antique-filled ambience gave the hotel a living museum feel, which resonated deeply with my love for history. Breakfast in the elegant dining room was a treat, with Mrs Bishop-the owner-graciously greeting guests and sharing her delightful family's story that added a personal touch. While there's no air conditioning, the ceiling fans did a commendable job of keeping us cool during our stay. One of my favorite parts was sinking into the serene atmosphere, enjoying billiards in the cozy lounge, and even taking a bracing dip in the tidal pool after slipping out of my room with little more than a towel. For anyone looking for acceptance and a slice of history accompanied by a dash of comfort, the Walpole Bay Hotel is an enriching experience-even for the most discerning traveling teachers like myself!
